◆ Smart Craps

About Smart Craps

Smart Craps is a craps game built around one idea: the table should be exactly as honest as a real one. It started as a project to put a real craps table on tablets and a camera that reads real dice, and it grew a web version anyone can open and play for free.

What it is

You get a full casino craps layout in your browser, with animated dice, chips you place on the felt, and a dealer's voice. You can play alone or invite friends to your table with a short code. Everything you play with is a virtual chip.

How the rules are kept honest

The rules live in one game engine, written without outside dependencies. Every bet is a small module that says when it can be placed and what a roll does to it; the payouts printed on the felt are generated from the same rules the engine pays, so the picture cannot disagree with the math. The engine's tests compute the exact house edge of every bet over all 36 dice outcomes and compare it with the textbook value, check after every action that no chips appear or vanish, and replay random sessions from their command log. The resulting numbers are the ones on our bets page.

What free play means here

Chips in Smart Craps have no cash value. They cannot be withdrawn, sold, exchanged for prizes or turned into anything of value. You can earn more chips in the game, and there are optional chip packs for people who want to keep playing sooner, but chips never become money. Smart Craps is entertainment, and it is not gambling. It is meant for adults aged 18 and over.

The table with a camera

Beyond the web game, the project includes a physical-table version: a camera reads the real dice, a server settles bets, players bet from tablets, and a pit screen lets a host correct a misread roll. An uncertain camera read asks a human instead of guessing. The code is public on GitHub.
